What are Proverbs
A proverb is a simple and concrete saying, popularly known and repeated, that expresses a traditionally held truth or piece of advice, based on common sense or experience. They are often in metaphorical language. Proverbs surround us everyday. Whether at work, school, church or during a conversation with a friend, the likelihood of hearing a proverb is high.
I tend to think of a proverb as a little tidbit of wisdom that just about everyone – no matter where they are from – can offer. There is a proverb for just about every circumstance, and proverbs can be applied to any situation and can at times have an educative role in a community. There are no specific situations or conditions for proverb use, they are usually inserted within normal conversations, usually to illustrate or punctuate a point.
